Although not as common a filming location as Hollywood, there have been several famous and iconic movies and scenes filmed in the Pacific Northwest. Let’s take a look of some of these famous movies and see if there are good spots to stargaze that we could use. This article will not look at every movie with a scene shot in the Pacific Northwest (Idaho, Oregon, and Washington) as this would provide a list way too unwieldy and length to want to be read.

We understand there are big differences in movies entirely shot in the PNW like Napoleon Dynamite, or The Goonies and movies with a scene shot in the PNW like The Shining. We will look at famous movies with scenes shot in the area as to find some potential areas to stargaze that are also beautiful and noteworthy.

The Ring	Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport, Oregon and Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge.

Although these sites are not in the darkest sites, these are accessible sites to a plethora of people and be recognizable to a sizable population.

Timberline Lodge, Oregon	Timberline Lodge is a great place to stargaze due to its distance from lights and elevation. Moving away from the lodge will provide more visibility due to lower light pollution.

Preston, Idaho	Bear Lake State Park
Astoria, Oregon	Fort Stevens State Park, Oregon
Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport, Oregon and Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge.	Sherrard Point, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, and other Columbia River Gorge spots are wonderful.
