With the 2024 solar eclipse behind us, it’s time to look ahead to future eclipses, more specifically solar eclipse travel to a foreign country. In 2027 and 2028, total solar eclipses will be in counties that many Americans might find foreign and need to travel to. We have been to over 30 countries and have never had issues. Here are some tips and tricks to not only help us stay safe, but will keep you safe and be respectful on your journey.

Traveling With Gear Requires Extra Caution

Not only is traveling with gear for solar eclipse viewing extra nerve wracking due to safety, but having the extra gear potentially makes you a target. Take steps to insure the gear and not expose yourself to undo risk or harm.

Follow Local Customs

If it’s customary to remove your shoes or do something for religious reasons, do it. Don’t be a jerk and please don’t offend the local culture.

Always clean up after yourself

The last thing you’ll want to do is be messy! The last thing you want to do is make a bad impression. Not only does this prevent future visitors from doing what you did, but also is bad practice in general to be messy and leave trash.

Don’t Be Rude And Disrespectful

You’re in a foreign country, where you might know the language. So please be respectful to the local people and customs.

Always Stay Safe

Whether you’re with your friend who is a local or a tour group, always stay safe. You don’t want to split away from the group and/or make yourself a target. Your safety is paramount!

Check With Your Government On Tips

Governments and their equivalent state departments will often have best practices, phone numbers, and more for those interested in traveling to certain countries. This can include avoiding certain countries or area due to violence or threats against Americans or other groups.
