Seattle Astronomy Resources

Seattle Skyline

Home to more than 725,000 people, Seattle, Washington is the 18th largest city by population in the US. The greater Seattle metro area has a touch more than 4 million people, which is a bit north of 50% of the entire Washington population as of this writing. With a great mix outdoors and city activities, Seattle has a lot to offer, including a lot of Seattle astronomy.

Seattle has a science museum, the Pacific Science Center, and a nice astronomy community, with the amateur astronomy club the Seattle Astronomical Society. The SAS is active and along with the University Of Washington Physics Department and other astronomy resources, there are a plethora of options to choose from.

The Seattle Astronomy Society does have monthly meetings that do have zoom calls that means that the public can remotely join. The SAS organizes monthly star parties at Green Lake and Paramount Park which are free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to join!

With the plethora of National Parks and dark sky parks in short drive; the metro area of Seattle provides a plethora of opportunities to stargaze. When the stars align, it is even possible to view the Aurora Borealis from a few of these sites.
