It’s time to start planning for Milky Way Season! The reason being that camping locations fill up quickly! Everyone has their favorite time to shoot in regards to the moon. No moon, half moon, or fully moon.

The key is knowing what you’re looking to shoot, when the best times are, and where to go. We have taken the time to put together a great resource for places to go for viewing of the Milky Way through our map and reviews, which can be found here.

In regards to finding time, some great resources that we utilize include checking the moon phase calendar and lightpollutionmap.info.

The weekends with no moon in 2020 are:
June 19th, 20th, and 21st
July 17th, 18th, and 19th
August 14th, 15th, and 16th
August 21st, 22nd, and 23rd

We recommend booking cabins and campsites soon as fire lookouts and popular campgrounds have already sold out! Many state parks sell out quickly as they release campground reservations up to 9 months early.

It is our recommendation to book cabins and sleeping arrangements early, as long as the reservations can be cancelled. This being the case because a bad wildfire season can hamper any issues to photography or viewing.
