We previously did an article on the 2024 solar eclipse for the several US state parks, and figured that there is an amazing opportunity for mapping those state parks to their Bortle Scale values. With the help of https://www.lightpollutionmap.info, we created the following table to provide information about the entire state parks for Idaho in regards to light pollution and astronomy.
Item | How Many |
Number Of State Parks | 27 |
Number of Different Bortle Scales | 5 |
Level 1 Bortle Scale State Parks | 0 |
Level 2 Bortle Scale State Parks | 7 |
Level 3 Bortle Scale State Parks | 13 |
Level 4 Bortle Scale State Parks | 3 |
Level 5 Bortle Scale State Parks | 3 |
Level 6 Bortle Scale State Parks | 1 |
There are 7 parks at Bortle Scale 2 parks, which includes:
Henrys Lake State Park
Harriman State Park
Ashton-Tetonia Trail
Bear Lake State Park
City of Rocks National Reserve
Castle Rocks State Park
Priest Lake State Park
With 7 of the 27 state parks being either a Bortle 1 or 2 scale, this means that 25.925% of the state parks are of these methods.
