There was another article that highlighted the most famous space missions that have completed. In this article, let’s take a look at the most famous in progress missions!

Hubble Space Telescope

Launch in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope is a space based telescope that has been vital for space research and a boon for astronomy public relations. The Hubble space telescope is the only space based telescope designed to be repaired and has been repaired or upgraded 5 times. The Hubble features 7 foot 10 inch mirror, with the main instruments allowing research in the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The orbit outside the distortion of Earth’s atmosphere allows it to capture extremely high-resolution images with substantially lower background light than ground-based telescopes. Hubble observations have led to breakthroughs in astrophysics, such as determining the rate of expansion of the universe. Famous images include the pillars of creation that is a really well known public image. It is predicted to last until the 2030s, and maybe until 2040. Its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope is launched and is providing amazing research opportunities

International Space Station (ISS)

Located in low Earth orbit, the ISS is a 25 year project (first module launched November 1998) that involves five space agencies: the United States’ NASA, Russia’s Roscosmos, Japan’s JAXA, Europe’s ESA, and Canada’s CSA. The station is in low earth orbit and serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory for scientific research in areas of astrobiology, astronomy, meteorology, and physics. The ISS can be seen from Earth and is a fun thing for kids to see, as well as a satellite that can be photographed in long exposure DLSR photos. The ISS is said to be the most expensive single item ever built. Updates and more information can be found from the partnering organizations, such as NASA.

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)

Launched December 25, 2021 at 7:20 AM EST, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the largest optical space telescope, and is currently conducting infrared astronomy. Although there have been delays in its construction and launch, the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope allows scientists to view and study objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. There is no way to repair the telescope at this time due to its orbit. This new research will enable scientists to investigate astronomy and cosmology mysteries.
