Astronomy Road Trips Across America

America Roadtrip

Ever wanted to take a road trip and hit some astronomy sites along the way? Curious about how to add astronomy into an epic roadtrip? We’ve got you covered in a new series that we’re launching called, “Astronomy Road Trips Across America.”

We will start off by covering items such as astronomy sites and locations along major US interstates that cross the country, which go from North to South and East to West; followed by famous state routes; followed by famous state highways. The goal is to provide opportunities for people to stargaze and do astronomy on their roadtrips and find new astronomy locations. Not every interstate, highway, or state road will be included, but rather the major corridors for travel to help travelers find new opportunities.

Areas that will be on the map include places to do astronomy, that include and are not limited to State Parks, National Parks, and Bureau of Land Management areas, but also include reviews of the astronomy options available, famous sites, cities, and other resources to help travelers on their journey. Moreover, in addition to reviews and rating the stargazing options and opportunities, each option will provide information about how far from the main corridor it is to help travelers adjust their travels accordingly.

We are starting with 17 articles, 1 introductory article, and 16 articles on specific drives, which does not include US-1, or major interstates such as I-5, I-70, or I-95. We will be including the major interstates as well.

If you have an idea for astronomical sites to document along a roadtrip or ideas for a new roadtrip, make sure to let us know either by comment or social media.
