A meteor air burst is a type of air burst in which a meteor explodes after entering a planetary body’s atmosphere. When this happens, they are then called fireballs or bolides. There have been several famous events in history that are widely known.

Chelyabinsk Event

Entering the atmosphere in Russia’s Ural region in February 2013, this 66 feet or 20 meter in size near each asteroid was briefly brighter than the Sun. This made the light visible as far as 62 miles away and exploded at a height of about 97,000 ft. It is said that the damage caused by the exploding injured 1500 people and footage went viral on internet.

Tunguska Event

On June 30th, 1908, near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Yeniseysk Governorate, there was an approximately 12-megaton explosion. The explosion over the sparsely populated Eastern Siberian Taiga flattened an estimated 80 million trees over a forested area of 830 square miles with eyewitness reports suggesting a minimum of 4 people may have died in the event. The Tunguska event is the largest impact event on Earth in recorded history, with much larger impacts have occurred in prehistoric times. An explosion of this magnitude would be capable of destroying a large metropolitan area.

1919 Michigan Event

This was a gigantic meteor was seen approaching from the east. A brilliant flash of light, thunder, and an earthquake lasting three minutes were reported. Damage to property over a large area as well as to telegraph, telephone and electrical systems. Although the least famous event on this list, it’s an interesting event as it did have an impact on semi modern infrastructure.
