2044 Solar Eclipse: South Dakota National Parks In Totality

Canada National Parks solar eclipse

As of the writing of this, there are 429 official units of the National Park System; however, this number can be misleading. National Park System units are found in all 50 states, in the District of Columbia, and in the U.S. territories, except for the Mariana Islands. In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the 5 National Parks sites in South Dakota that will experience totality in varying degrees in 2044 for the solar eclipse.

Of the 5 NPS Units found in South Dakota, which is the most of any state in totality for the 2044 eclipse, the state has 2 National Parks, 1 National Monument, 1 National Historic Site, and 1 National Memorial. The most recognizable of these sites is Mount Rushmore, but none of these locations are in the path of totality.

Please note that sun will set below horizon before eclipse finishes.
